Serving Community

Outreach to Oxford and Butler County

There are many opportunities to be God’s hands and feet in our local community outreach ministries. Our members are very busy and committed to serving those who live in the Oxford Community and beyond. Listed here are just a few several of the ways that we serve God through supporting and serving our local community:

  • Family Resource Center – providing a Thrift Shop (free to those in need), job training and assistance in applying for benefits through the Benefit Bank
  • Habitat for Humanity – working with future homeowners to build their homes
  • Kirkmont Center – supporting campers, staff, programs, & facilities at our PCUSA camp
  • Mobile Health Fair – providing health screenings, education, and referrals for low-income Ohioans.
  • One Way Farm – providing an alternative to foster care for children & teens in need of help
  • Oxford College Corner Medical Clinic – providing access to a free clinic for Oxford area adults without health insurance
  • Oxford Women’s Care Center – providing counseling and other services to community and college women
  • Safe Haven Farms – providing access to a community of choice for autistic adults
  • Oxford Community Choice Pantry – Volunteers are needed for work at the OCCP. Training is provided.
  • Family Resource Center and Thrift Store– Volunteers, donations, and shoppers are needed. The store is open to the public with a wide range of household items, clothing, children’s toys, strollers, CD’s, and much more all priced to sell. Proceeds support the mission of the Family Resource Center.
  • The Interfaith Center, formerly the Campus Ministry Center, serves the Miami University and Oxford area communities by promoting the values of religious pluralism and encouraging interfaith dialogue that encourages acceptance of differences.
  • Deacons Blood drives – providing opportunity for blood and plasma donations to our local blood bank, the Hoxworth Blood Center

Community Dinners

Community Meals are held every week on a rotating basis at 5:30 p.m. at one of five Oxford churches.  OPC hosts and serves a Community Meal every fifth Wednesday of the month (about 4 times per year).

These dinners are intended to provide a good, nutritious meal on a consistent basis to those who might otherwise not eat well. People from all backgrounds and means come to the dinners to share in fun, food, and fellowship. Donations for the meals are welcome but are, by no means, required.

There are several ways to help with Community Meals: donate money to purchase food, donate food, donate dry goods, help with setup, serving or clean up, help with a prayer or brief worship. All are also welcome and encouraged to break bread with those in attendance at the meal!

Dry goods are always needed for the ‘free goods’ table, as are plastic containers so attendees can take home leftovers after the meal. Dry goods are accepted at all times and can be placed in the box by the Christian Education office.
